rTMS treatment at Neurowave
Specific information for referrers.
Repeated magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a safe and effective treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. During rTMS treatment, minor electrical pulses are administered to the head to modulate brain activity. Treatment takes 20-30 sessions spread over 10-15 weeks, combined with cognitive behavioural therapy. Neurowave is a practice working in the ‘gespecialiseerde GGZ’.
The regular treatment for depression currently consists of some form of psychological therapy and/or medication. rTMS treatment can be chosen when psychotherapy or medication is less appropriate, or when someone does not want medication. In the Netherlands, rTMS is reimbursed by the basic insurance if there’s therapy-resistant depression (if at least 2 previous treatments for depressive symptoms have been tried).
Referring a patient
You can refer the patient to us via Zorgdomein.
A referral letter from a doctor must be added when registering. It is important that this indicates:
- Whether he/she is being referred for the indication depression or OCD;
- Whether there is “therapy-resistant” depression (at least 2 previous treatments have been tried, e.g. 1 course of psychotherapy and 1 antidepressant);
